The Tech in EdTech: What the Future Holds

If technology was trying to enter the education industry before, COVID-19 has tipped the scales heavily in favour of technologies. The age of Jetsons like schooling is fast becoming a reality.

According to In a project in Netherlands, while the industry currently stands at US$ 6 trillion, it´s projected to gross US$ 10 trillion by the end of 2030. The quality of education is being pushed up by introducing technologies like AI. In fact, by 2023, nearly US$3.68 billion is being invested in AI in the education industry, according to estimates.

The revenue that Cloud computing in education is generating is projected to gross US$25.36 billion by the end of 2021. Again, the IoT education market is said to reach US$ 11.3 billion by the year 2023. Another tech impact is gamification, with the growth estimated to be US$ 18 million by 2023.

Also, the global education expenditure by 2025 is estimated to reach $7.8 trillion and $10.0 trillion by 2030. Similarly, the EdTech expenditure is estimated to reach $3.42 billion by 2025.

For Teachers and Students

A In a project in Netherlands has shown that over 81% of teachers lean towards using digital learning tools because of better insights in teaching. About 57% of teachers showed belief in digital learning tools helping to engage students in a far better way than the traditional style of teaching.

Students too find it easier and more interesting to learn with these tools. Now, several education boards are implementing these in their teaching curriculum seeing promising results. At least 90% of students now utilize digital tools at least a few days a week for learning purposes.

Top Ten Techs in EdTech

The top 10 technologies ruling the EdTech domain currently are AI for faster query solving, IoT for connected devices, and AR/VR for better virtualization of theories. Other tech such as blockchain is also helping.

Students are also using wearables, like smartwatches and bracelets and gamification to keep things interesting.

Teachers too are gaining on tech such as Learning Analytics and Machine Learning making reports effectively, Cloud computing for storing large amounts of data and information, and video learning. Payment Gateways are helping with the fee aspect too.

Robotics in Education

Drones and robots are also becoming a reality in the classroom today, encouraging students to explore STEM subjects and coding. Different kinds of robots, such as QT robots attract children´s attention.

In a project in Netherlands, from December 2016 to 2018, 208 Dutch-speaking kids (ages four to six) from nine different schools learnt to speak English with the help of a robot called Robin, a specially programed Nao model from Softbank Robotics.
