Samsung’s New 350 ppi OLED Panels Could Give Retina Displays a Run For Their Money

Apple’s iPhone is starting to look a bit dull, and if the Cupertino, California-based company doesn’t manage to spice up the displays in its next iPhone, it may find itself falling behind chief rival Samsung. A report from Korean language news site etnews states that Samsung has begun producing next-generation OLED display panels that tout a staggering pixel density of 350 ppi. The Retina display on Apple’s iPhone 4S features 326 ppi and the panel on Apple’s new iPad sports 264 pixels per inch.

According to OLED-Info.com, Samsung achieved the feat using Fine Metal Mask technology, and it can “quickly apply this production process to their current AMOLED fabs.” In other words, we may soon see Samsung smartphones featuring screens with industry-leading clarity in addition to the amazing color reproduction they already achieve.
