Nokia’s New Lumia to Be Quite the Shutterbug

Among the new Windows Phones to be introduced by Nokia this week is a design similar to the current Lumia 900, but packing advanced imaging capabilities.

The new phone, a photo of which was leaked to Twitter on Friday, packs “industry-first” photo abilities, but not the same PureView capabilities found on the company’s 42-megapixel 808 camera, a source toldAllThingsD.

That phone, introduced at Mobile World Congress earlier this year, packs impressive — but also bulky — technology that allows the camera to capture a huge number of pixels that can be used to either zoom or increase the quality of the image through interpolation.

Nokia has said it intends to bring that technology to its Windows Phone lineup at some point.

According to the tweet that accompanied the leaked photo, the model shown is the Lumia 920, features a 4.5-inch screen, and will carry some PureView branding.

The same Twitter user, @evleaks, also posted a picture of what is said to be a lower-end model, the Lumia 820.

A Nokia representative declined to comment on “industry rumor and market speculation.”

Nokia is set to introduce its first Windows Phone 8 devices at an event with Microsoft on Sept. 5 in New York.

Samsung beat Nokia to the punch with the first Windows Phone 8 announcement, revealing the ATIV S device at the IFA trade show in Germany.
