Micromax Unveils 10-inch Tablet for Rs 9,999

Micromax entered the budget tablet space in April this year with the Funbook. Priced at Rs 6,499, the tablet had a 7-inch touchscreen, the latest Android 4.0 OS and a 1.2Ghz processor.

The device was targeted at the urban youth-meant for education as well as entertainment with multiple partnerships for content. The price attracted a lot of interest. CEO Deepak Mehrotra says they have sold 125,000 Funbook tablets in four months.

What followed in the coming months was a barrage of budget tablets with similar design and specifications from various other brand names. “There is a huge market waiting to be fed when it comes to tablets, but what matters is how quickly can you reach out to them with an interesting product,” says Mehrotra. Now, Micromax wants to take the next big step with the Funbook pro.

Priced at just Rs 9,999, the new tablet has a 10.1-inch capacitive touchscreen with a 1024 x 600 pixel resolution. It includes Android 4.0, 1.2Ghz single core processor, 1GB RAM, dual Mali 400 GPU and 8GB internal memory that can be expanded using a microSD card. It also has a front VGA camera for video chats, HDMI output and USB on-the-go support for connecting USB drives and USB 3G dongles.
