EV: A new WhatsApp feature to offer hassle free charging for EV users

Charzer, an EV charging station aggregation platform, introduced a new Whatsapp feature to offer hassle free charging for EV users. This new feature aims to make EV charging more accessible and user-friendly, particularly for individuals who may find mobile applications challenging to operate.

Sameer Ranjan Jaiswal, CEO and Co-Founder, Charzer, said, “We are excited to launch this new Whatsapp feature that can make it much easier for our users to use our charging stations. At Charzer, our primary goal is to make charging stations easily accessible to all EV users. With this new feature, users can start charging their EVs without the need to download an additional app, making the process more accessible, particularly for individuals who are not tech-savvy.”

The Why

Charzer identified a significant challenge faced by fleet drivers, such as three-wheeler and cab drivers, who often encounter difficulties when operating new mobile applications. The need for extensive training and multiple rounds of instruction, along with frequent rotation of drivers, leads to instances where fleet managers or hub managers often take on the responsibility of initiating charging on behalf of the drivers. This diverts the attention of these managers from efficiently managing their fleets to managing the charging process.

Additionally, older individuals who rely on their children to make bookings and start charging have had to deal with this inconvenience. Recognizing the widespread use of WhatsApp across various age groups, Charzer’s solution simplifies the process by allowing anyone to start charging their EVs with just a simple “Hi” sent to 7829330410 on WhatsApp. Users can also message in Hindi, Telugu and Kannada as well. This feature also provides fleet managers with more time to focus on operational tasks and eliminates the need for constant coordination between managers and drivers for charging activities.

Features

  • Start and Stop EV Chargers: Users can remotely initiate and halt their EV chargers via WhatsApp, offering an effortless and convenient method of charging control.
  • Monitor Charging: Real-time monitoring of charging progress provides users with a clear picture of their EV’s charging status, enhancing the overall charging experience.
  • Add Money to Wallet: Users can conveniently add funds to their wallet via WhatsApp, streamlining the payment process.
  • Raise a Complaint: A user-friendly complaint system allows customers to address any issues or concerns they may encounter during the charging process.
  • Request a Charger: Any EV fleet, apartment community, or offices can request for a charging station installation at zero upfront cost.

Manufacturing tech: PIC18-Q24 Family of Microcontrollers

To defend against current and ever-expanding security threats, Microchip Technology (Nasdaq: MCHP) has launched the PIC18-Q24 Family of Microcontrollers (MCUs).

“System security is only as strong as its weakest link. Any programmable component can be vulnerable, and it is essential to implement enhanced protection features to prevent potential hacks,” said Greg Robinson, corporate vice president of Microchip’s 8-bit MCU business unit.

“The PIC18-Q24 family of MCUs from Microchip are designed with advanced security in the forefront, to help customers combat threats at the system’s foundation.”

The Why

More and more everyday items are connected to the cloud—from cell phones and vehicles to smart thermostats and home appliances. With this rise in connectivity, the need for advanced security measures at the chip level, protecting both firmware and data, is critical.

Features

  • To counter the threat of maliciously reprogramming a device in an embedded system, PIC18-Q24 MCUs introduce the Programming and Debugging Interface Disable (PDID) feature. When enabled, this enhanced code protection feature is designed to lock out access to the programming/debugging interface and block unauthorized attempts to read, modify or erase firmware.
  • Because many secure systems often connect and communicate with a wide variety of sensors, memory chips and processors, the PIC18-Q24 MCUs feature Multi-Voltage I/O (MVIO). This feature eliminates the need for external level shifters and allows the MCUs to interface with digital inputs or outputs at different operating voltages.
  • In addition to reducing board complexity and Bill of Material (BOM) cost, MVIO makes PIC18-Q24 MCUs especially well-suited as system management processors, performing monitoring and telemetry for a larger processor. These seemingly routine tasks are typically most vulnerable to potential hackers as they try to gain access to embedded systems.
  • The PIC18-Q24 family is also enabled with the option to have an immutable bootloader for applications that want a secure way to upgrade firmware.
