With major insurers like State Farm offering safe driver discounts to people who choose to share their dashcam info, the idea of monetizing and rewarding vehicular safety is already well established.
However, while insurers can only offer lower premiums as a form of remuneration, Atlas Navi wants to take things a step further and actually pay people for sharing the road and traffic conditions to assist in its efforts to disrupt the world of navigation apps. Not only does this mean that Atlas Navi will pay you for the AI-enhanced dashcam footage you choose to share with them, it also means you can earn money by basically sitting in traffic.
Because of this, it’s no wonder why AtlasNavi’s flagship navigation app was downloaded 75,000 times in July – with 65,000 drivers registering for the new service. What’s even more impressive is that CEO George Grama told a panel of journalists and founders at an Espacio Media Connect event that he only told 60 people about the app and word spread like wildfire.
So how does it work? How did Grama achieve a 124,900% increase in users prior to the app’s launch?
The way the app works puts a clevertwist on existing technologies to create an entirely new navigation experience. AtlasNavi uses smartphone cameras to analyze road conditions 25 times per second and alert other drivers of road conditions as they change. Through this method, Atlas Navi collects over a hundred times more data points per mile than competing apps, which is then used to identify and map events such as traffic accidents, police vehicles, and available street parking as they occur in real-time. Users can then choose to share this data and be rewarded for their participation.
“Nothing new has happened in the transportation app space in at least the last eight years,” Grama said in a recent press release. “We hope that by rewarding drivers for sharing the conditions they experience on the road and capture on their dash cams or smartphones we can make the world’s streets safer while helping commuters save hundreds of thousands of commuting hours per year.”
The way Gram intends to accomplish these two pretty substantial feats all boils down to the app’s activity-generated $MILE tokens. Users earn $MILEs for each mile they drive – and these tokens can then be cashed out for $NAVI cryptocurrency. $NAVI, like any other crypto, can then either be cashed out in an exchange like Binance or used to purchase rarity-based 3D vehicle NFTs and other premium features. Because of this interesting combination of machine learning, computer vision, blockchain technology, and crowdsourced insights Atlas Navi is well positioned to disrupt the navigation app industry.
